about

Echonomy Series is looking to select works already released in small editions or download-onlies and to recontextualise them.
Marko Martini, better known to some under his Least Carpet moniker, and Yann Gourdon, most notably known as the hurdy-gurdy player of France, have a shared interest in slowly evolving, long-form pieces, polyrhythm and intertwining melodies – and so do their tracks. Recorded first without being aware of one another, these pieces blend together into one carefully executed psychedelic mass. All 5 tracks were rearranged and rerecorded for this release.
Both artists‘ work is deeply informed by the work of 1960s minimalists; especially Martini’s three combined tracks „60“, „120“ and „200“, first recorded at a live show in 2017, bring to mind Reich’s „Pendulum Music“, with two metronomes swinging in and out of phase over shruti box and accordeon. Gourdon’s piece „Pli“ layers a set of semitones into one continuous drone, generating its own slowly swinging rhythm, sucking up the tonal space into one all-consuming black hole. In „Canon“, as the name suggests, each new part begins with the same continuously repeated cabrette riff transferred into a chance-operational polyrhythmic pattern of stuttering beauty.
As it’s always the case with the tape releases of OM, Echonomy #3 is strictly limited to an edition of 40 copies.
